Very out of date but I trained in Stafford - 1992-95. It was an excellent set up then. Hopefully it still will be. Good luck.

Cheers,

Hiya, I'm coming to the end of my 2nd year as a student nurse and although I don't go to that university, sometimes there are similarites and so thought I would give you a general overview of what happens at my uni.

In my first year we had 3 placement blocks of 9 weeks each. Placement hours were 30hours per week and then we would attend uni once per week 10am to 4pm whilst on placement. In the 2nd and 3rd year we have 4 placement blocks.

When not on placements we generally have to attend uni 4 days per week 9am/10am to 4pm.

Hope this helps a little xx

You clever person you! well done and look forward to seeing you in Sept. Will have to hook up when you get there Mandy

We have been told the first placement begins on wk9 of the semester (for 6wks), the 2nd on wk24 (10wks) and the 3rd placement on wk 15 of the next semester (10wks) - have to say I'm bricking about my first one even though I have been doing HCA work at a local hospital since Jan this year.

hi all, i rung staff uni yesterday and asked about my application and they told me the lady whom processes the applications would not look at mine due to me not starting the access course until april not even for an conditional offer, the lady i spoke to on the phone said she keep returning my application back to her to process and she has finaly decided to, so she said i wil receive an interview but when, she aint should but it aint sounding good, as for the interview if it aint untill i complete the access course is there any point? because it doesnt start on much of a ground from the sound of things. i can see what she is saying to a point but at the same time it aint as if i am a newbie to nursing enviroment as i work in a hospital, i have been a senior carer in the community for 3 years working with careplans and risk assessments etc but who knows till your there, oh well bit of a knock back but i will still be taking on the challenge, so bring it on mrs processor lol

Hi Kaz,

DONT GIVE UP!  you will get there even if its small steps. I had worked as a senior carer and had worked most of the wards across both our local hospotals and in the community And i still had to do the access course. i dont mean to put you off only encourage you. I took the access over two years, AAHHHH two years before i could even apply to Uni , but if it was what i wanted i needed to just get on. And i have to say i have REALLY enjoyed it, learnt so much and it has flown by ( i finish in June).

I had my interview for Uni in Jan and was offered a first time around ( on the condition that i compleat the access course). I personally felt that even though i had the experiance of being on a ward they needed to see that i could deal with the academic side of things as i had been out of education for a long time.

Grab the bull by the horns and pull its head off!

Hi,

I just wanted to know what access course it is you will be doing? I am due to start an access to health course that will take me 1 year to complete and will cost me £800!!  Just wondered if there was another one i could do that would save me paying that because i really can't afford it.  Cheers.
