career change ideas

Posted about 1 year ago Does anyone have any bright ideas about what I could retrain as. I am an RMN but have had to work in the private sector as the area I live in has a severe shortage of NHS posts. My current job ( I know I'm lucky to have one in the current climate) is slowly grinding me down and I feel I need a change until things pick up in a few years time. I would keep my PIN upto date but would like a change of scene so that I don't end up resenting my work in the long run. I do love Mental Health nursing, but feel a temporary change would bring back a little sparkle and remind me why I chose this field of nursing. I thought about counselling or probation services. Any other ideas? It does not necessarily have to be nursing related but would be nice to keep it person centred. Thanks for looking! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I'll watch this thread with interest as I've had a few doubts myself. Must admit, sometimes I feel like I want do something completely different, but what can I do as an RMN other than nurse? I don't want to teach which seems to be the most common answer. And i don't want to go into sales. And I need to earn at least as much as i earn as a nurse - which shouldn't be that hard, surely? |

| Posted about 1 year ago Thanks so much Croatoan for answering. I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way! I hate feeling like I'm turning my back on nursing but I feel I have more challenges out there for now. Had a look on the nhs careers page and found a high intensity therapy job description which sounds very interesting and relevent for someone with RMN qualifications. Unfortunately no positions in my area at the moment...... |

| Posted about 1 year ago definitely not the only ones. I would love to get out of nursing, have thought about teaching, but unsure how to go about it. I am so disillusioned with my job that I don't even think a change to another field would help. It's all so frustrating and confusing! x |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hi, Rhian. It's good to see you back on ProNurse, although I am sorry to hear you are feeling the way you do about nursing. You are still young enough to make a career change, if that is what you want to do then GO FOR IT!! Take care. Mo x. Mo. Forum Leader on ProNurse. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hi Mobijm I honestly forget that I am on here sometimes. I really should make more of an effort. :) I do want a change, but unfortunately finances mean that I am unable to do so at the moment. I would love to retrain in general nursing, but I can't see it happening yet.
How are you doing? x |

| Posted about 1 year ago I am a trauma nurse in A and E, and really desperate to get out of nursing, due to unsafe practice and added pressures, no time for patients, only for paperwork. would ideally like more money and new job, but really undecided and dont know what to do. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I just took a gap year because I felt unsure about staying in Mental Health. Having been away from the area, I know see that it was the particular field of MH I was working in that I wasn't very happy with. It was the best decision I have ever made!! Now I love working in mental health again, although when I have my annual leave I make sure I don't do any bank shifts and do something completely unrelated to work and mental health when I am not on the ward.
Maybe you could try associated fields? Homeless charities, Shelters for women etc. It's still related to mental health in a way but is very different. Either that or you could take a complete different direction and follow other interests, or study for a while.
I'd suggest something that you are interested in and know you'll like, even if short term because then you'll see whether you miss mental health! I know someday I will be,

| Posted 11 months ago Hi, Thanks for nice post also welcoming me and i would like to say here may be you will have try lot of for change your carrer maybe you got tired of working at the same job.that was not a lot of money, but being in a Nursing jobs does allow you to make a lot in tips, which is why it is one of the career change ideas,You need to take some adwise depending on what kind of a nurse you want to be.
Nursing jobs provide not only nurse jobs service it provide also travel nursing jobs, medical assistant jobs, pediatric nursing jobs and many more...................You know, it is the lack of career change ideas that seems to keep many would-be career changers stuck.I know you want to change careers, to do something different, but you just don't know what you want to do instead.whatever where you can go for it.
Thanks |
