Adult training to Midwifery

Posted about 1 year ago Hi
I am a student adult nurse currently on non bursaried leave from uni (in 2nd year) after breaking my hand and have been having a rethink!
Does anyone know if you can complete foundation year as a nurse and go straight into 2nd year midwifery training? I would like to do that when I return in Sept but if it means I will have to start from scratch, I'll continue on the nursing pathway and train as a midwife later.
any advice would be appreciated

| Posted about 1 year ago Hiya,
If it helps, you can do a converstion course to midwifery after nursing but they want relevent experience eg. gynae. I enquired into this myself. I wanted to be a midwife but after the uni I've just finished at to wrote to me to ask me to consider nursing I went for it. I don't regret doing nursing now as there are so many avenues that I can explore. I'm sure you know the varying avenues that you can still have involment in post natal care. I would suggest re-examining why you went to nursing and do your research about what is involved with nursing. In regards to moving to midwifery in the second year, it is at the uni's discretion, so you would have to seek out the head of the midwifery programme at your uni to see if they would consider you. Hope that's useful! S |
