Posted about 1 year ago Hello, I had my daughter in 2008 and since then have been wanting to train and become a midwife. Now that my daughter is getting older i feel now is the time to do this. I have searched and searched on the internet and cannot find what i am looking for until i came across this forum so wondered whether you could possibly answer me a few questions i have: 1. Do i have to complete my A-levels before i can go to University to become a midwife/nurse? if so, what are A-levels and how do i do them? 2. Is it difficult to get a place doing midwifery and do you have to do nursing first? 3. How long is the University course for for each one (nursing and midwifery) 4. Is it difficult to become a midwife? 5. Can you do the University courses part-time? 6. Do you get paid for taking the courses?
I think that's all the questions i have up to now.
thank you for your time :)

| Posted about 1 year ago Hiya, I'm just doing the access course at the moment. I'm still deciding whether to go for midwifery or go through nursing first. You dont have to have A-Levels to get on to degree for nursing or midwifery but you will probably need something up to date e.g. access to health/midwifery or some GCSE. It seems quite competitive to get a place on the nursing course all depending which uni you are applying to I suppose. Midwifery is even harder because there are less places on the courses. The courses are 3yrs each whether you do diplomas or degrees. I think some unis do the degrees part-time but not many from what I've seen where I'm living anyway. You don't get paid while your training but you might get some help because of child dependents. Also you can go about a student loan through Directgov website. Hope that helps. Now I just have to decide what I want to be when I'm big!! Elly |
