Posted about 1 year ago Hi, i'm starting my mental health nursing degree in september. I just wondered if mental health nurses could post a bit about their typical day, just so that i can get a greater insight in to the role of the mental health nurse in different settings.
Also any tips on things i could be reading up on to give me a bit of a head start, i already have a psychology degree so it can be fairly advanced. We only spent one lecture on drugs, will it be helpful to learn more about specific drugs.
thanks |

| Posted about 1 year ago theres no such thing as a typical day, thats one of the best bits about the job, as to what to read up on that would depend on what area you want to go into |

| Posted about 1 year ago I agree. That's why I didn't respond. There are many different areas of psychiatric/mental health nursing (even down to which title people use) with different activities and often very different philosophies too. Some nurses are very defimnitely doctors' assistants whilst others are very different intheir approach and their opinions. Tell us a little more about your hopes (eg which area of psych nursing attracts you most) and then you might get some more helpful responses. Cheers, Stuart |
