Hi, First year Nurse here - I understand your problem. I too struggled with the same thing in class. But it really isn't that big a deal, if you are picking up good snips of information along the way. It is very hard to stay completely focused and actually process what is being said by the lecture for an hour or two hours depending on the class. I've been told the brain can only do around 20 mins of 'active listening' at a time before you either think about something else or lose focus for a few minutes before you begin listening again. This is where eLearning comes in... Do you have blackboard at your university? It's a system where you can access your lectures powerpoint slides. Make notes and look over any points you may have missed in the lecture. I use it because I don't take notes in a lecture. Period. I find I can't do two things at once so I just listen then make notes at home, and further reading always helps. If that fails try recording your lectures and not eating too much at lunch or discussing the lecture with friends after. Garrod |

| Posted about 1 year ago I do exactly the same even now and I'm in my 3rd year. I only do it because I have Irlens Syndrome. Check out this website, there is a self test you can do, http://www.irlenuk.com/ . If you think you have it after the test talk to your learning support people, do you have dyslexia? |

I agree. I often don't eat at all when delivering training for just that reason. Also the recording idea is excellent. I've used audio recordings of myself reading materials for years. I play them in the car as I drive around and the information really sticks in. Try recording the lectures and play them back at other times while you're concentrating on other things. You'll be surprised how effective it is. Cheers, Stuart |

| Posted about 1 year ago PS: Do you feel dizzy and/or get headaches? These are some of the symptoms or Irlens, its actually quite annoying when you fall asleep, so I just ask my mates did I miss anything. Its only a minute or so but its surprising how fast the lecture can move on. |

| Posted about 1 year ago hi! im back i study a lot but no more than anyone else and i always try to get 7 or 8 hours sleep. i have blackboard and elearning is really useful but i feel really rude when leacturers see me. im mortified! so i dont want to take a 2min sleep to refresh then get stuck in - even though that may help. i dont think its irlens syndrome cos iv got none of the other symptoms. i do get dizzyness and headaches but i do have low blood pressure. iv got docs on friday so il speak to her

| Posted about 1 year ago "Probably coz ur course is boring or you've chosen the worng course, in either case deal with it!" what a dick! care to elaborate with great words of wisdom how this person can deal with it? they have already stated that they enjoy the course so that doesnt seem to be their problem. come on then smart arse tell us all how one 'deals' with it? |
