Posted 4 months ago We operate a 24 hour support line. We are supported by a crisis team who are available from the hours of 5pm to 11pm, they have the ability to assess people within these hours, However I have always wondered what happens after these hours. Of a shift whether its nights or days theres only two members of staff. during 9-5 we have cmht support and crisis intervention from 5pm to 11pm. I always wonder what may happen if I was doing a night shift and after these hours what if a patient phoned up stating they were going to take an overdose and you cant talk them out or reassure. I keep getting different answers from people as to what to do. Really what can I do, I cant leave a unit to assess, should I be inviting them here? Also can anyone tell me if a person is drunk stating they are suicidal, are they assessable or not. Again I get told different things Help. |

| Posted 4 months ago Hi Trapdoor, You ask a huge question with loads of variables. I don't know about anyone else but from my perspective that'll take a while to answer properly. However I think it's worth spending the time to have a stab at giving you some useful information. So this is just to say that I for one will get back to you once I've put my thoughts together. Cheers, Stuart

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
