A  new drug for angina may prevent chest pains without  unwanted side effects. Research from the Centre De Researche Pierre Fabre in France shows that the drug targets specific parts of the heart cells. Existing angina drugs, such as betablockers, directly interact with the mechanics  of the heart. The drug known as F- 15845 ,works by blocking sodium , high levels of sodium are linked to angina. There are already drugs that block sodium , but they can sometimes cause further heart problems. The new drug targets the sodium channels - routes  that allow the damaging chemical into the  heart cells.
