ProNurse Review: The Happy Nurses Guide to Creating a Balanced Life

ProNurse

There are many different types of life coaching books and this one is written by a nurse for use by nurses so it’s no surprise that it gets to straight down to the point with a clear and concise style.

It’s pink and powerful!

The premise of the book is that you change your lifestyle by making continual small changes to the way you live your life. Each area of your life is covered in a separate chapter, and unlike some other books, who give claims about instant results you are given a reasonable timeframe to gather your thoughts, make some goals and write them down.

You are urged to write things down many times throughout the book and it is something that is part of the experience of trying to establish exactly what you want from your life.

Claire provides an overview of theories of ways to analyse the different areas of your life and gives case studies either from her own experience, or those of her clients. There is not a heavy focus on nursing roles, but rather a concise summary of what the issue was, how it was recognised, what steps were taken to rectify it and what results were achieved.

She does not cover areas in depth, preferring to direct the reader to Internet links or books that specialise in the subject in question. This allows the reader to research the areas that most interest them at their leisure and retain the focus of the book on the key areas.

Perhaps the most effective element of the book is her strong persuasion that you can achieve significant improvement in your life by making one small change a day. Reading an article, buying a book, visiting a travel agency for a brochure, calling a friend to discuss something – they all count as progress and while the following steps may be harder you have already built up a momentum and a feeling of progress.

My only complaint as a male reader is the feminine colour scheme for the book. I was reading the book on a train opposite a trendy dude who was watching DVD’s on his laptop and he was shooting me some looks of barely restrained disgust. However, I was engaged in making small steps to a happier life while he was just passing the time glued to his computer screen!
